Using its patented underwater harvester system, they recover standing forests flooded by dam reservoirs in a safe, economical and environmentally-friendly manner while delivering valuable local economic development opportunities to reservoir-affected and forest-dependent communities around the world.

Responsibilities

The forestry technician will travel to locations throughout the world conducting submerged timber and operational feasibility surveys. Data acquired through aerial photos, remote sensing, water quality sondes and sonars will be used to direct current and future harvesting operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
    Remote Field Surveys:
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting field surveys of submerged timber in the company's current harvesting operations and business development units. Work will require extensive overseas travel.
  • Boat and sonar use: Field surveys are almost entirely conducted from a boat using sonar(s). GPS use is mandatory and an understanding of GIS is important.
  • Database management: Sonar data, aerial photos, satellite imagery and other spatial information will be acquired by the candidate.
  • Dissemination of information: Candidates must be able to effectively capture and disseminate the information in the form of maps and formal documents.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must be able to hold a valid passport and travel internationally
  • Boat operator’s license is desirable, ability to work on a boat is essential
  • The successful candidate should possess a B.Sc. in Forestry and/or an advanced Diploma in Forestry
  • Familiarity with sonar(s) and post-processing is preferable
  • Forest survey experience will be mandatory in selection of the successful candidate
  • The candidate must have experience, assimilating and maintaining GPS data
  • Accuracy and confidentiality of all data and systems

Responsibilities

The primary role of this position is to run our client’s proprietary shallow water underwater harvesting machine at a major, long term project based in Ghana, Africa.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with Corporate Policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Ensure that all activities comply with relevant Acts, legal demands, professional and ethical standards;
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of all relevant data and systems;
  • Attend appropriate team meetings and provide constructive feedback and support to other team members;
  • Maintain a positive relationship with department heads in both the Corporate Office as well as in subsidiary offices as they are established through constructive feedback, assistance and provision of various reports;
  • Maintain professional awareness of overall developments in the field of assigned areas by literature review, attendance at professional meetings, conferences and seminars; and Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Troubleshooting and Repair which includes the ability to read electronic/hydraulic schematics;
  • Knowledge and experience working with AC voltages up to 230 VAC;
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair;
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting and repair;
  • Ability to install and perform software updates;
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills;
  • Ability to work with the engineering group to improve performance of the equipment;
  • Ability to train and mentor new operators.
